Goodnight, Ark


Goodnight, Ark by Laura Sassi is a delightful hardcover picture book that is beautifully illustrated. It's recommended for children ages 4-8 and my children, ages 4, 6, and 8 all loved it. It's a gentle retelling of the story of Noah, placing him in the ark with all the animals in the midst of the flood, tucking all the various creatures into bed. This wasn't really a telling of the story of Noah, but rather an imaginative tale of what life might've been like on the ark for Noah, in a fun way that entertains and reassures children.

I loved this book. It's very high quality and the pictures were bright, bold, colorful, and beautiful. The rhyming words and nightime/storm themed storyline is perfect for tucking the little ones in bed each night. I think any child from the ages of 2-8 would enjoy this book as a bedtime story. It's sometimes difficult to find quality Christian picture books for kids, but this one definitely hit the mark. I'd recommend this to any Christian parent looking for a new bedtime story to read to their little ones.

I'll admit - I wanted to read Can I Just Hide In Bed 'Til Jesus Comes Back?: Facing Life With Courage, Not Comforters by Martha Bolton and Christin Ditchfield mainly because of the cute cover (I mean, just look at it!) and the fun title. I often just want to hide in my bed with junk food, books, and Netflix and retreat from the world and responsibilities. However, I know that hiding in bed really isn't the answer to life's problems. A Letter From Lancaster County

I'll be honest: I'm not necessarily a huge fan of Amish fiction. Oftentimes it tends to be idealized, unrealistic, or contrived. However, I decided to check out Kate Lloyd's new book, A Letter From Lancaster County (the first in her new Lancaster Discoveries series) because it seemed so unique. The main characters are not Amish (although one is Mennonite), but many of the supporting cast are Amish and it is set in the heart of Amish country, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
