Whatever Is Lovely



I've been wanting an adult coloring book for a long time, so when I saw Whatever Is Lovely: A Coloring Book for Reflection and Worship by WaterBrook Press, I knew it would be a great option for my first coloring book. I find coloring soothing and relaxing, and worship/faith/inspirational/biblical coloring pages are the perfect thing for relaxation and meditation. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect since I'd never had an adult coloring book before, but I definitely wasn't disappointed. The book description reads:

As soon as I got this book, I could tell it was high quality and well made. The pages are thick and lush, and your colored pencils won't press through to the other pages. The images are hand drawn and gorgeous, and there is a nice blend of Bible verses and inspirational quotes throughout. I appreciated the variety of quotes and designs. It was difficult to pick which page to color first because they are all so pretty! Also included is the link to an inspirational playlist to listen to while you color. I tuned in while coloring my first page. There is a very large selection of songs in a variety of different types. I liked many of them, but some of them were pretty "out there". However, the playlist is a nice touch and definitely enhanced my experience with the book. I am very pleased with this book and am excited to color the rest of the pictures! I highly recommend Whatever Is Lovely to anyone who wants to relax with a great adult coloring book.

I'll admit - I wanted to read Can I Just Hide In Bed 'Til Jesus Comes Back?: Facing Life With Courage, Not Comforters by Martha Bolton and Christin Ditchfield mainly because of the cute cover (I mean, just look at it!) and the fun title. I often just want to hide in my bed with junk food, books, and Netflix and retreat from the world and responsibilities. However, I know that hiding in bed really isn't the answer to life's problems. I figured I'd pick up this book and see what Martha and Christin have to say about facing life head on. Forgiving Our Fathers And Mothers by Leslie Leyland Fields (with Dr. Jill Hubbard) is one of the best books on forgiveness I've read in a long time. Each chapter details a different aspect to the parent/child relationship and need for forgiveness, followed by a word from Dr. Jill and study questions. I really enjoyed this format. It was like getting to the heart of the matter with Leslie, and then visiting a professional psychologist (Dr. Jill) to process your emotions afterward. Leslie uses her own real life story, plus the stories of others who have had difficult relationships with their parents, plus plenty of Scripture, to trace the path to forgiveness and healing. This book really hit home for me. Warning: it will probably make you cry! Leslie's story, as well as all of the others, were alternately emotional, touching, sad, horrifying, and redeeming. I liked how Leslie brought practical tips to questions such as, "Do I have to forgive?", "How do I forgive?
