Abraham

Abraham: One Nomad's Amazing Journey of Faith by Charles R. Swindoll is billed as a biography of the life of Abraham, one of the great patriarchs of our faith. Abraham is one of those characters in the Bible who lived such an amazing and faith-filled life that I was eager to learn more about this ancient biblical figure. The book description reads:

"When we rewind history back to Abraham’s era, we encounter people who concocted false superstitions to explain the unexplainable. Powerful kings claimed to be gods, building massive pyramids to achieve immortality. Out of this mass of misunderstandings, one man emerged. The man we know today as Abraham not only claimed that one true Creator existed but also staked his entire life on this belief. Why, thousands of years later, are we still discussing the faith of this desert nomad? One of America’s most popular Bible teachers, Pastor Chuck Swindoll, answers that question and many more in this compelling and insightful biography that will inspire your own faith."

Now, this was a compelling and insightful book with many spiritual truths to be gleaned. However, it wasn't truly a biography in the traditional sense - I mean, we have all of Abraham's biography in the pages of the Bible. This was more taking the stories of Abraham and expounding upon them and applying them to our daily lives in these modern times we're living in. There is much to learn from the life of Abraham and this is a very important book. Pastor Chuck Swindoll makes confusing biblical passages plain in the light of the customs of the times and has a gift for keeping the reader interested and turning the pages. I'd recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn more about Abraham and dig a little deeper into the Old Testament.

I received a copy of this book from Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
